Waking up and feeling great!
Getting to spend time with my brother, Don, who I haven't seen in two years!
Holding a new calico kitten. So teeny, eyes tightly shut, sweet little mouth and tiny nose. So Precious!
Wriggling my fingers in my dad's newish full beard. I love it.
Watching my dad interact with my granddaughter, Meg. He's so fantastic with kids.
Getting to spend time with my daughter, Kari. She has a great sense of humor.
Getting hugs and an "I love you" from granddaughters, Britty and Lindsay.
Eating candy corns mixed with peanuts. Kari always has goodies at her house.
Eating a new no fat carmel praline candy frozen yogurt, yum! Unfortunately, eating is always a favorite.
Finally leaving my dad's house after trying to fix a car.
Taking photos of Meg and Britty who were playing models and changing clothes and wigs every few minutes. They never cease to delight me.
What a blessed day!
I'd love to hear some of your favorite moments too. I'm having a contest...share your favorite moments of the day, and I will choose my favorite one of your favorites and award a gift to the winner. It could be as small as a ten dollar gift card to Starbucks, or Target, or wherever I choose, or let me know where you'd like it from, and/or a 2010 Blue Mountain Arts "Dream" calendar which features one of my poems. Just leave your favorites in the comments section of this blog, and I'll announce the winner on November 1st. You can enter as often as you want.

Favorite moments of today: 1. Getting to work and seeing my wonderful teammate. She is the most amazing teacher and person, and I absolutely love working with her. 2. Having to make a phone call to a parent about her daughter: She pulled her pants down during PE, in her words, "For fun". 3. Coming home to my wonderful husband and children after a long work week and being able to kiss and cuddle them. 4. A nice glass of wine to help me wind down!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that you get to work with someone like your teammate, especially when working with little people which are so full of surprises, both good and bad! I agree that your kids and husband are wonderful, and I know they were glad to get to kiss and cuddle with you too. I wonder what everyone else does to help wind down. I bet wine is way up there on the list! Maybe that will be my next contest. Thank you for sharing!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice contest! I have a few...
ReplyDelete1. I have someone working his pants off at work and in his MBA, but he still takes the little time he has to hang out with me.
2. My biggest complaint is not having enough time. That's a blessing! I could be complaining about such bigger things.
3. I have a great circle of friends and family. I always have someone amazing around me.
4. I have such a good little girl who has confidence in her faith and learns life lessons through her faith. Can a parent ask for more?
That's all I have for now...
Hugging my daughter and telling her I missed her when she came home from visiting her father. She always makes a face like she's annoyed, but if she thinks I forgot she reminds me...
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite moments happened just today when I checked out MY blog and actually had a comment (from YOU). Your comments about rejection were heartfelt and helpful and I know that soon BOTH of us will experience a heightened appreciation of our creativity!
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'm not smart enough to run a darned contest. I've tried to comment after each comment posted, and it worked with Cindy's, but even though I'd commented after Sara's, and it said it was published, it never showed up. So I will try again. Sara, yes it is great to have someone who is very busy, and still makes time for you...he is a special guy. And you are so blessed to have a great group of people who love and care about you, but that's just cuz you are so lovable! And we could all learn from a little one's faith, it's so pure and simple, just how ours should be. Thank you for sharing a few of your favorite things.
ReplyDeleteHey Jen! Thanks for participating. Hugs are the best, especially after we haven't been with someone we love for awhile. How cute that she reminds you...kids, grown or not, ya gotta love them!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Angie, for having me be part of your favorite things of your day! I remember once after a rejection, I covered my computer with a blanket for a couple weeks while I mourned!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite part of the day was hearing my son Jaiden calling to daddy with pure excitement. In a hurry I ran to see what all the excitement was about. As soon as I rounded the corner, there my little guy was struggling to free himself of his binding pants and diaper." I gotta go pee-pee daddy" he exclaimed. I quickly helped him lose his vise, and he was free. He ran to his little potty and stood facing it, in typical man position to relieve himself. What, my little man was peeing standing up! I couldn't believe it. I ran and got my phone/camera because it was the closest thing I could find. Stood back let him go and forwarded it to mommy. Wow, now that was an exciting moment of the day.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, Ryan, that favorite part of the day touched my heart in so many ways! You have a wonderful gift for writing; action, emotions, the whole scenario. I could see it all play out in my mind, you should make time to keep your blog updated. The love, excitement, and pride you have in Jaiden, and in being a daddy, is evident, and your joy is contagious! Thank you so much for sharing that milestone with us! Hugs, kisses, and high fives for Jaiden!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I were determined to tile our kitchen backsplash ourselves. We spent weeks trying to decide which tiles would be best, took an early morning tile class together, bought the supplies and finally started tiling Sunday. It took us all day. We didn't stop to eat, rest or relax because we were determined to get this done before Sunday dinner at my parents. Yesterday we did the grout work and then today we woke up and both stood back to look at it and we were so proud at the work we had done and how great it looked. It wasn't about the money we saved by doing it ourselves it was about the fact that we did it. It shows the pride we have in our home and our determination to acheive a goal together. We love continuing to learn what a great team we are and give each other high fives each time we go in the kitchen...the dancing and singing we did while tiling helped keep things fun and stress free too. This was my favorite part of the weekend.
ReplyDeleteKimber, I could just picture you two dancing and singing and giving high fives, and how wonderful that you have someone that likes to work and have fun with you at the same time. So many couples forget how important it is to make marriage, and the stuff that goes along with it, fun. Yeah you!!!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth's favorite things of the day:
ReplyDelete-Waking up with my little Bichon curled up in my chest snoring
-Hearing the coffee grinder automatically going
-Sitting with a cup of coffee in my dressing room picking out my outfit for the day
-Lighting my favorite candle from Anthropologie
-Getting to have my mom over for dinner now that we live in the same city!
-Turning on my front porch light at night because I have never had a house of my own!
I can sure identify with leaving your porch light on. I do that too, and really like it when all the neighbors join in. You have a designated dressing room? Sweet! Having your mom over for anything is one of my favorite things too! Thank you for commenting...loved your photos from the wedding and your travels!! Miss ya!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing tocay was to hear that my teacher Mrs.Woodward had a baby boy named Logan Reid and he weighed 7lbs. 2oz. and i loved how every one was fighting over how he was born cause he was suppose to be a c-section but was not!
ReplyDeleteLamentations 3:22-24
ReplyDelete“The unfailing love of The Lord never ends; his mercies begin afresh each day. I say to myself “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore I will hope in Him”
The morning is most definitely my favorite time of the day. It's quiet, it's dark and it gives me the time to myself, needed to face the day.
My day normally begins around 4:45am. The constant humming of the c-pap machine keeping my husband from suffocating in his sleep, slowly nudges me from slumber. No alarm needed, as I normally get up at the same time each day.
Upon arising, I'm first greeted by a guilt ridden dog, who has just jumped off the couch she knows she is not allowed to be sleeping on. I make my coffee and head to my favorite chair, where I proceed to sit and pray about my day. It's amazing how clearly you can hear the voice of God in silence. There is clarity in those moments. God speaks and not only is it heard, it is felt deep in my soul. It gives me such a sweet sense of peace, as I head into my day.
Sadly, that usually only lasts about 10 minutes! Since I allow myself this time, it normally makes me late for work. After rushing through my shower, getting dressed, applying make-up, and trying to do SOMETHING with the hair that I just “conditioned and conditioned”, instead of “washed and conditioned” I'm normally about 10 min behind.
When I finally do arrive at work. I am greeted by my boss, who is often mistaken for a grouchy little bear, with the bite of a piranha! He makes the idea of going on strike rather appealing! Healthcare, wages, and pension? Who cares! I would settle for “humane treatment, a smile and a simple good morning”, to be written into the contract! After putting in my 8 hours of aerobic bookkeeping, customer service and checking, I head of to pick up the grandkids from their bus stop.
Ahhh there is something magical about sweet little granddaughters! They are always excited to see you, they have the greatest hugs, and the most wonderful stories about their day to share.
I don't remember those days, but I'm sure they are locked in my memory somewhere! When a girl enters the 5th grade, it typically means the onset of puberty. It is apparent in the disgusted look that is etched in their once sweet little cherub faces. A look only interrupted by a smile when they “accidentally” send their little sister and her 30lb backpack flying into the bushes, as she tries to step off the bus.
Once the scolding and comforting are done, I head for home. I try to get dinner going as soon as possible, as I am convinced they don't really feed the children at school, or so you would think, by how starved they are when they get home.
I normally try to find something that both girls will eat, while maintaining some kind of nutritional value. Not an easy task since the younger one meets every meal with a look one might give had they been served deep fried scorpions, or dog poop or something.
Then it's on to homework. God bless the teachers of 5th grade math! However, where are they when it's time for the homework?! There's a reason I don't watch the show “Are you smarter than a 5th grader?” No! I'm NOT and I admit it! The second grader? Yes, I can help her, but that's it.
Since most nights, Stef has to work past bedtime, that brings what I like to call the “Bedtime Battlefield”. A small futon serves as the battleground. After 30 minutes of giggling, kicking, hitting and crying, one child will get sent to the “dungeon”. The pretty little pink room that houses the killer porcelain dolls that apparently to come to life, when the lights go out. Then come the tears!
Once the kids are in bed, dishes are done, house is picked up and phone calls/emails have been answered, Mark will walk in just in time for a kiss goodnight. Then it's off to bed.
I often lay there exhausted and frustrated, but ALWAYS thankful that God's mercies are new every morning and tomorrow always brings a new morning.
The morning is usually my favorite time of day too. And spending time with God is certainly a wonderful way to make any day the best it can be. Besides that, I love the days that I get the privilege of sending my grandkids off to school. Today I made chocolate chip pancakes and green eggs, fun. I also love changing their just-got-out-of-bed heads into styles any diva would be proud of!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lindsay, for sharing your favorite thing! I tried to comment back to you earlier, but it didn't work so I am trying again. How exciting that your teacher had a baby! And even better for her that she didn't have to have a cesarean. I am surprised that many sixth graders know enough about how babies are born to be able to argue about it! LOL
ReplyDeleteIt's November 1st, as unbelievable as that is. And though every comment was so much fun to read, the winner is Ryan (Liberty rings.) Every single one of you is a favorite of mine, so it's nothing to do with him being my nephew. It was just such a touching moment that we can all identify with; one of the "firsts" in a child's life. How lucky we are to get to share in any of those, even if just by way of a comment! I LOVED hearing all your favorite moments. Thank you so much for sharing them.
ReplyDeleteUh,huh, where do I start. I'd like to first thank my family for supporting me, when things got tough they stood by my side. I'd also like to thank my manager for beleiving in me and pushing me till I could go no further....SMACK...Wake up Ryan, your not excepting an Academy Award or VMA. Well in that case thank you Barb, for liking my "Favorite Moment of the Day" it truly was a moment that will forever be etched in my grey matter for hopefully as long as I walk this green earth.
ReplyDeleteLOL....You're welcome! Expect your wonderful awards in the mail soon. And THANK YOU, you've been a key part in this being so enlightening, and so much fun!
